Is there one NFL franchise that sticks out from the rest in terms of having the best uniforms? We think so. This piece will examine all 32 NFL teams, and we will rank them from least-favorite uniform to the best threads in the league. Where does your team end up on the list — and do you agree with us?
32. Arizona Cardinals
Fans called for Arizona to revamp its uniform set for years ahead of its overhaul in 2023. Unfortunately, the franchise debuted a rather uninspired look. The all-red option seen above is the worst of the bunch — highlighted by a miserable ‘Arizona’ wordmark across the chest. Arizona’s all-black option is fine, and its all-white set is arguably the best of the group. However, that look is a bit too reminiscent of Ohio State’s road uniforms.
31. Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons avoided last place on this list due to their decision to abandon the red/black gradient uniform that they wore for three seasons. With that being said, Atlanta’s two primary uniforms are a letdown. The home black set with a giant ‘ATL’ is a miss. The road uniform also features the ‘ATL’ wordmark but is easier on the eyes than the home uniform. Atlanta’s alternate uniform — featuring a red helmet — is a masterpiece. The franchise should adopt the look full-time.
30. Washington Commanders
Before the franchise underwent its rebranding, Washington was one of the best-looking teams in the NFL. The maroon remains a strong look for the Commanders, but the style of the numbers misses the mark. Thankfully, the team is bringing back gold pants in 2024 — they were last worn in 2018 — in a move that will surely make the fanbase happy.
29. New England Patriots
The Patriots would be ranked much higher if they wore the ‘Pat the Patriot’ uniforms full-time. The red throwback uniform and white helmet is easily the best look the franchise has. The current set is uninspired. The navy uniform is particularly bad when paired with navy pants. The silver pants are an upgrade, but New England is in need of a revamped set.
28. Tennessee Titans
Like the Patriots, Tennessee has an awesome throwback uniform. The Oilers uniform that the franchise brought back last season is an elite look. Unfortunately, Tennessee’s primary uniforms leave a lot to be desired. The white uniform looks best paired with baby blue pants, but the team far too often opts to wear its mono-navy set. There are some cool aspects of Tennessee’s look, but a refreshed look would be nice.
27. Jacksonville Jaguars
There is nothing insultingly bad about Jacksonville’s uniforms — but the team can do much, much better. Teal is a good look, but Jacksonville’s main issue is that its look is rather bland. When the team debuted in 1995 it instantly boasted one of the league’s best looks. The Jags would benefit from returning to their past look, and we will get a taste of it in 2024 when the franchise debuts a throwback.
26. Carolina Panthers
The Panthers have largely maintained their uniforms since the franchise debuted in 1995. We don’t hate their look, but it feels like the team could use a fresh set of uniforms. The uniform above is one of our favorites, along with the blue top/white pant option. The team looks particularly average when it trots out its mono-blue look.
25. Los Angeles Rams
If the Rams had a second jersey as strong as the one Matthew Stafford is wearing in the photo, they would rank much higher. However, the uniform Stafford is wearing is the only good option the team has. The mono-blue uniform should never be worn again. Fans are split on the grey ‘bone’ alternate, and the Rams thankfully limit the use of it.
24. New York Giants
Once again, we have a team that has better throwback uniforms than its current set. The Giants have won two Super Bowls wearing their current duds, but an overhaul is long overdue. Both the home and road uniforms are boring. Fine, but boring. The old-school blues and the throwback whites — featuring the old navy shell with ‘Giants’ — are far superior. This a very middling uniform set.
23. Denver Broncos
It’s hard to rate Denver’s new uniforms without seeing them in action first, but this feels like a fair spot. To the surprise of many, Denver opted to keep its navy shell and horsehead logo (with small changes). The orange top and the white top stand out from the image above. The mono-orange combo and the navy top/orange pant look should stay off the field. The Broncos will also bring back the John Elway-era light blue uniform in 2024.
22. Houston Texans
For the first time since it joined the league in 2002, the Houston Texans will take the field with a set of uniforms in 2024. The Texans debuted their new white uniform against the Chicago Bears in the Hall of Fame Game and it looked pretty solid. We will have to see their three other looks in action before we can give a fair assessment, but we are encouraged by the early returns.
21. Cincinnati Bengals
Cincinnati’s helmet is elite. However, we can’t help but feel that the uniforms could be a bit better. We enjoy the orange top, but the Bengals only donned the color once in 2023 — a bit odd for a team that features a tiger as its mascot. The tiger stripes on the pants could use some work, as well. The Bengals have solid uniforms but we know there is room for improvement.
20. Minnesota Vikings
While we believe the Vikings have one of the best helmets in the NFL, their uniform falls into the middle of the pack. The throwback purple uniform that they wore in last year’s season opener is an upgrade over the current purple set. The striping on the throwback uniform trumps the striping on the new set — as does the grey facemask compared to the current, black mask. There isn’t much that separates Minnesota from the teams ranked in the next few slides.
19. Seattle Seahawks
This is a ranking that we can see many people disagreeing with. Some will say Seattle has top-10 uniforms, while others may believe the uniform set is one of the worst in football. For us, the Seahawks are firmly in the middle of the pack. We enjoy the look above, but the look becomes far worse when paired with navy pants. The royal blue throwback coupled with the silver helmet is incredible. Sadly, Seattle only wore that look twice in 2023.
18. Detroit Lions
Like the Texans and Broncos, it is tough to rate Detroit as we have not seen any of its new uniforms in action. The black alternate uniform has been divisive amongst fans — particularly the Honolulu Blue helmet — but the new, blue uniform is a thing of beauty. The Lions may skyrocket up this list once we get a better look at their new set.
17. Miami Dolphins
There has been a clear trend so far — many teams have throwback uniforms that are superior to their current set. The Dolphins are certainly in that group. Miami’s throwback uniforms are awesome. The current set isn’t bad, but it pales in comparison to the Marino-era threads. The colors remain great, but the overall uniform — from the logo to the lack of striping — falls short.
16. Philadelphia Eagles
The next six teams could be flipped around and we wouldn’t argue much. The Eagles have donned their darker shade of green since 1996 and the franchise has had a lot of good years since it ditched the Kelly Green. We are partial to the Kelly Green, but the current shade is also nice. The home uniform is a better look than the all-white set. We wouldn’t mind a full-time return to the Kelly’s, but it is hard to imagine the franchise ditching the Midnight Green.
15. Dallas Cowboys
Let’s get this out of the way — our least favorite Cowboys uniform is the one they wear the most. Dallas often opts to wear white at home, but we believe it is its weakest option. The blue tops are great — as are the grey pants opposed to the grey/light blue pants Dallas wears with the white top. We also prefer both alternate tops ahead of the primary white uniform. Most will think Dallas is ranked too low, but this is where it belongs.
14. Pittsburgh Steelers
Classic? Yes. Electric? No. There is nothing wrong with Pittsburgh’s uniforms. The Steelers are instantly recognizable and have maintained their look for decades. Our only knock on Pittsburgh’s look is its alternate uniform. The mono-black set with yellow numbers just doesn’t do it for us — stick to the yellow pants.
13. Indianapolis Colts
The Colts and Steelers have something in common — both teams should stay away from their current alternate uniform. Indianapolis has a very simple uniform but it works. The blue pops off the screen, the white helmet works perfectly, and we enjoy the shoulder striping. The white uniform is a bit dull compared to the home threads, but it is still a clean look. Nothing spectacular, but Indianapolis looks good.
12. New Orleans Saints
We have two small gripes with New Orleans’ uniforms. First, the collar is too bulky. Second, the gold doesn’t appear to match throughout the uniform. The helmet appears to be a different hue than the numbers and the pants. Still, we like the overall look. The Color Rush uniform — all-white with gold numbers — may be a top-5 uniform in the league. The home black and gold set is strong, as well.
11. Buffalo Bills
While we prefer Buffalo’s look from the 1990s, its current uniform is still quite nice. The home uniform is the star of the show. We love the red outline on the numbers and shoulder stripes, and the helmet is elite. We don’t care for the mono-blue look that Buffalo wore three times in 2023, however. Nobody needs to think of Smurfs while watching football.
10. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
If this list had been made five years ago, Tampa Bay would have been ranked No. 32. From 2014-2019, the Buccaneers wore one of the worst uniform sets in league history. Thankfully, the franchise listened to its fans and brought back the beloved pewter in 2020. The red and pewter combo is very unique and is a very strong look. The mono-pewter uniform is a bit much, but the Bucs can be forgiven since they also brought back the Creamsicle throwback last season. We are very high on all of the remaining uniforms, so Tampa shouldn’t feel slighted by coming in at No. 10.
9. San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco is another franchise that would benefit from embracing its past uniforms. The 49ers have worn throwback looks more frequently in recent years — and even attempted to wear a throwback in last year’s Super Bowl — but their current look is also one of the best in the league. The gold pants look great with both the home reds and road whites. The numbers are a bit plain, but the throwbacks make up for that issue.
8. Cleveland Browns
Cleveland had one of the worst uniform sets in the league for a very long time. Now, the Browns are towards the top of the NFL thanks to recent changes. Cleveland’s brown top/orange pant combo is excellent — as is the white top/orange pant option. The Browns also introduced a mono-white look that is surprisingly strong. And, Cleveland will look even better in 2024 as it is set to bring back white facemasks.
7. Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City is another franchise that has maintained its look throughout its existence. The Chiefs look great nearly every time they take the field. The home reds are gorgeous, and the road whites are strong, as well. The yellow accents really bring the look together. The only bad look the team has is its mono-red alternate. Thankfully, Kansas City only chose that uniform once in 2023.
6. Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens debuted in 1996 and aside from changing their helmet logo have largely stuck to their debut uniforms. Baltimore’s purple and black combo is one of the best looks in the NFL and it is arguably the only team in football that can pull off mono-colored looks. The Ravens look good in mono-purple — and will be debuting a new, purple helmet in 2024 — and they look even better in mono-black.
5. New York Jets
Last year, we had the Jets towards the bottom of this list. What a difference a year can make. New York brought back its old, cherished look with a modern update. Both the white and green uniforms look fantastic. We can do without the mono-black alternate, but it is still an improvement on the previous alternate. Additionally, the Jets will be wearing a 2000s throwback in Week 6 — we approve.
4. Green Bay Packers
Green Bay has barely tweaked its look since 1960 and it has been a great decision. Love them or hate them, the Packers have one of the most iconic — and best — looks in the NFL. The home greens are a gem, and the road whites hold their own when paired with yellow pants. The mono-green uniform is a bad look, but the Packers will be introducing a new, mono-white look in 2024 featuring a white helmet. The new uniform looks good in photos, but we will have to wait until Week 7 to see it in action.
3. Chicago Bears
The Packers have dominated the Bears for more than a decade, but the Bears come out on top here. All four of Chicago’s uniforms are strong. The home navy uniform is elite, the road whites are nearly just as nice, the throwbacks are top-notch — unless you don’t like stripes — and the orange alternate is strong. We don’t love the orange helmet that is paired with the orange tops, but it is not a big miss. Now, the Bears just need to improve on the field.
2. Las Vegas Raiders
The top-two teams are in a class of their own. The Raiders possess one of the most recognizable uniforms in the world. The home black and silver combo is truly iconic. The road uniform isn’t as great, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the look. Adding to their elite wardrobe, the Raiders wear an amazing alternate uniform — white tops with silver numbers. We would love to see the alternate replace the primary road uniform.
1. Los Angeles Chargers
Is anyone surprised to see the Chargers at No. 1? While the franchise has been the subject of many jokes for years, nearly everyone agrees that the Chargers’ uniforms are beautiful. The powder blue top/yellow pant look is unmatched. The road whites are fantastic when paired with the yellow pants. We aren’t high on the mono-royal option, but the mono-navy is a strong alternate. Los Angeles hasn’t been able to put a winning team on the field, but it hit a home run when it introduced its uniforms ahead of the 2020 season.
